Miasms with Ian Watson

The Miasms Revisited
Hahnemann introduced his theory of miasms towards the latter part of his life, and it proved controversial amongst the homeopathic community then, as it still does today. The theory arose out of his extensive clinical observation that in many cases, particularly in chronic disease states, the administration of well-indicated remedies and removal of external maintaining causes was insufficient to bring about a lasting curative result. He also observed that certain consistent patterns of disease appeared amongst multiple generations of the same family.
Hahnemann reasoned that there had to be not one but a number of different invisible energetic tendencies that could be passed on and would give rise to recognisable disease manifestations. To counter these tendencies, he introduced the idea of anti-miasmatic prescribing, which seemed to produce more sustainable curative results.
My own research into the miasms led me to conclude that Hahnemann’s theory was correct, but somewhat one-sided and incomplete with it’s sole focus on pathological states. I came to the conclusion that it is more helpful to view miasms as neutral challenges that can lead towards disease or towards a growth in consciousness, depending on how we relate to them. I became interested in how we can work with and transform the miasmatic energies that arise, rather than try to work against or eliminate them.
In this workshop we will explore how we can adapt and upgrade our understanding of miasms and our therapeutic approach so as to optimise the beneficial effects for our clients and ourselves. We will also look at more recent phenomena such as AIDS, radiation and covid-19 through the lens of a miasmatic understanding of health and disease.
My book The Homeopathic Miasms - A Modern View is a recommended resource to complement the workshop for those who are interested
